MOMOYAMA PERIOD (LATE 16TH CENTURY), SIGNED KANEMOTO

Sugata: shinogi-zukuri with iori-mune and chu-kissaki; nagasa: 2 shaku, 1 sun, 7 bu (66.0 cm.); torii-zori of 1.2 cm.; fumbari: 1.0 cm. Jihada: itame. Hamon: gonome in nioi and nie highlighted with large areas of sunagashi. Boshi: hakikake. Nakago: suriage, probably about 11 cm., shaved on the back, on the entire ura and on the omote above the mei and with a semi-moist, brown patina; yasurime: [original] gyaku-sujikai; nakagojiri: kuri-jiri; mekugi-ana: three; katana-mei: Kanemoto.

Accompanied by a Koshu tokubetsu kicho token ninteisho, no. 12640, dated Showa 52 (1977) issued by the N.B.T.H.K.

Katana-goshirae comprising: a finely ribbed black lacquer saya fitted with shakudo kojiri and koiguchi engraved with chattered streaks of rain; white-wrapped tsuka fitted with shakudo, gold and silver menuki in the form of armed men; shakudo nanako fuchi-kashira depicting Benkei and Yoshitsune at the Gojo Bridge, inscribed Goto Kanjo and kao; an iron Owari tsuba pierced with an interior circle, diamond losenge and stylized birds, signed Kofu (no) ju Akao Yoshitsugu, 18th Century---length of koshirae 95 cm., length of tsuka 44.3, diameter of tsuba 7.7 cm. [A few small chips and dents to saya.] Silk brocade storage bag.
