A HIZEN TADAYOSHI WAKIZASHI
EDO PERIOD (MID-17TH CCENTURY), SIGNED HIZEN (NO) KUNI (NO) FUJIWARA TADAHIRO

Sugata: hira-zukuri with iori-mune; nagasa: 1 shaku, 2 sun, 8 bu (38.7 cm.). Jihada: fine and tightly-compacted itame. Hamon: remarkably fine komidare in nioi and some insinuations of ko-nie, together with both nijuba and extensive sunagashi, particularly in the lower half of the hamon; in the monouchi, particularly that of the ura, is a lengthy area of ashi with some yo, the overall feeling of the entire hamon being one of restrained vigor. Boshi: chu-maru with a short 'beard' of hakikake. Nakago: slightly furisode, strongly tapering, ubu and with a semi-moist, brown patina; yasurime: kiri-yasuri; nakagojiri: kengyo; mekugi-ana: one; katana-mei: Hizen (no) Kuni (no) ju Fujiwara Tadahiro.
