A William III mug
of tapering form with a skirted base and a flat-section, reeded scroll handles, the body decorated with bands of incised reeding below the rim, scratched underneath "Y.E.I" and "5-6-oo", makers mark only, struck once below rim, (mistruck), by Tomothy Ley, circa 1697* - 9cm high, 5.5oz.
* Could the fact that this bears only Britannia Standard mark, during perhaps what was the strictest period in British Hallmarking be explained thus: the new mark could have been used after it's registration in the first few months of 1697, before the enforced period which began in March 1697.
