Kim Tschang-yeul was born in Seoul in 1929 and studied in the Fine Arts Department of the Seoul University from 1948-50. He also studied at the Art Students League of New York from 1966-68. During the years 1957-93 he had numerous one-person and group exhibitions in Korea, Japan, the United States and Europe. His painting was exhibited at the 2nd Paris Biennale in Paris in 1961 and at the 8th Sao Paulo Biennale in Brazil in 1965. During the years 1972-76 his paintings were shown at the Salon de Mai in Paris. In 1976 and 1979 he had a one-person exhibition at the Modern Art Gallery in Seoul. His paintings were exhibited at the Tate gallery in Liverpool in 1992.
