Lot Essay

This vase was the ninth of a limited edition of fifty produced by Coalport exclusively for F & C Osler of Oxford Street to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The sepia reserves reflect the industrial and agricultural progress achieve in Great Britain during her reign, such as Stevenson's Rocket and the Forth Road Bridge. See Michael Messinger, Coalport 1795 - 1926, Suffolk, 1995, p. 352-354, pl. 307 & 308 for an extensive discussion of this form and decoration.
