The arched bomb cartonnier fitted with a clock surmounted by two putti and a hound above eight gilt-tooled leather drawers and leather writing surface above a scroll-form frieze fitted with a single drawer opposed by a sham drawer, the cabriole legs headed by female busts above foliate-cast chutes and lion's paw sabots, the drawer twice stamped E. ZWIENER

Lot Essay

Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener is recorded as having worked at 12 rue de la Roquette in Paris from 1880 - 1895, leaving Paris in 18 95 when commissined by Kaiser Wilhelm II to supply the Schloss Neues Palais. His work had a significant influence on such renowned makers as Franois Linke and is distinguished by its sinuous lines, finely cast mounts and delicate floral marquetry in the Louis XV taste.

A closely related cartonnier by Boudet is illustrated , D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Franais du XIXe Sicle, 1984, p. 95.
A similar cartonnier signed Boudet sold in these rooms 26 January 1988, lot 525.
