Matthew Tilghman (1718-1790) was involved in politics and served in a variety of committees around the time of the Revolutionary War. He was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1751-1777 and was a speaker there from 1773-1775, a member of the Continental Congress from 1774-1776 and was elected twice to the State Senate.
