lithograph, 1916, on cream Japan, a very good impression, signed and titled 'Reducing' in pencil, numbered 'No 55,' from the edition of 58, with full (?) margins, the top and bottom margins folded back approximately 3-in. and 1.3/8-in. respectively for framing, otherwise in very good condition, framed; and a drawing for Reducing, Large, Second Stone (Reducing Excercises) (cf. M.22)--drawing in lithographic crayon, circa 1916, on tracing paper, inscribed 'OK' by Bellows at the bottom of the sheet, inscribed in pencil with the artist's name and initialled in pencil by his daughter, presumably the full sheet, pale mat staining showing in the margins, several minor defects at the sheet edges, otherwise in good condition, framed

Bellows described this as 'A study which started out in a humorous vein but developed into a drama of light and dark. The picture is as interesting upside down. Gymnastics before retiring are supposed to reduce the flesh. The husband is contented with his figure.'
