The water pitcher baluster on circular reeded base, the matte surface of the lower body bright-cut engraved with band of scrolls, cornucopiae, and anthemion centering an inscription on the front and another under the handle, the neck applied with reeded and beaded border, with fluted scroll handle and slightly everted spout, the goblets each vase-shaped on circular foot, the body bright-cut engraved with similar decoration centering inscription JLL Oct. 1 1876, marked under bases

Lot Essay

The engraved inscription on the front of the pitcher reads: "PRESENTED TO Profr. John E. Lincoln L.L.D. BY MEMBERS OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH & SOCIETY in acknowledgement of his eminent Services as Superintendent of the Sunday School for the long period of TWENTY ONE YEARS, PROVIDENCE. OCT.1,1876."
The inscription on the reverse reads: "He that goeth forth bearing precious seed shall doubtless come again bringing his sheaves with him"
