A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED CHINESE BLUE PORCELAIN VASES
Circa 1775, the porcelain Kangxi (1662-1722)
The vases of cylindrical form incised with blossoming peonies, the panelled Greek-key fret handles hung with laurel-leaf swags and issuing berried trailing laurel-leaves, the neck of the vase with entrelac cabochon and ribbon-tied collar, on a square plinth base mounted with ribbon-tied laurel-leaves, one with drilled holes possibly for a further, later laurel swag to the reverse, which has been subsequently removed, one inscribed 6104

Lot Essay

A garniture with identically-mounted central vase was sold anonymously in Paris, Galerie Georges Petit, 12 December 1919, lot 28, whilst a further garniture comprising a pair of ewers and a vase of this form was sold anonymously at Pescheteau-Badin, Godeau, Leroy, Paris, 8 July 1997, lot 1997 (299,310 FFr).
