Lot Essay

The miniatures are attributable to Edm-Charles de Lioux de Savignac (fl. 1764-1789), after Joseph Vernet. An oval box with similar marine scenes signed by Lioux de Savignac is in the collection of the Muse du Louvre, illustrated in Serge Grandjean, Les Tabatires du Muse du Louvre, 1981, cat. no. 58.
