Maker's mark of Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot, Paris, 1798-1809
Oval, the stand with scroll foliate border on four paw feet, the tureen on spreading oval foot and with two bifurcated raised loop handles, the shoulder applied with snake and grapevine decoration, the domed cover with fully-modelled figure of a Bacchante raising a cup, the body, cover and foot with calices of water leaves, the interior with removable silver liner with shell-form grips, the body, cover, stand and liner engraved with a Duc's armorials, marked on stand, tureen, cover and liner

Lot Essay

The arms are those of the Princes of Masserin, as borne by Charles-Sebastien Ferrero Fiesque, Prince de Masserin and Marquis de Crevecoeur, born on January 19, 1760. He was a lieutenant-gnral, and received the grand-croix of the Order of Charles III. He died in Paris in 1826.
