Nicholas Henneman was one of Talbot's earliest students and printed plates for each of Talbot's publications. In some cases, Hennemen would re-photograph the sites originally recorded by Talbot when the original negative had been damaged during the printing of The Pencil of Nature. Another example of the image offered here was included as an extra plate in the copy of The Pencil of Nature owned by Harold White. In that print the initials N.H. were present indicating that Nicholas Hennemen had created a second negative of the same subject. (Kraus, Sun Pictures, I, III, IV.)
