Lot Essay

A pupil of Hendrick Govaerts (1669-1720), the oeuvre of Charles Beschey rests exclusively on his landscapes, executed in the style of Jan Brueghel I. The present work can be numbered among this group which include a signed Winter Landscape sold at Phillips, London, Dec. 9, 1986, lot 48 (55,000=$78,100) and Elegant figures in a wooded Landscape sold at Phillips, London, Dec. 18, 1984, lot 34.
