The circular engraved dial with Roman and Arabic chapter rings and engraved suburst gilt-metal hands and a blued steel center sweeping second hand, with subsidiary second dial and bolt and shutter maintaining power above a sunburst-engraved brass bisextial plate showing a silvered calendar disc, the movement with twin going barrel, silk-suspended pendulum and strike on a bell, the forward-slide hood and waisted case mounted overall with pierced rocaille mounts

Lot Essay

Adrien Jerme Jollain, matre in 1763.
From a family of clock-makers, Jollain specialized in the manufacture of clock cases. A longcase regulator with similarly waisted body by Jollain is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe Sicle, Paris, 1989, p. 445.
The horloger Grenier is recorded at the Vieux Palais, Rouen. In 1780 he presented to 'l'A de Rouen' un balancier de pendule secondes.
