A related Roman side table, with similar frieze of pierced acanthus, reputedly from the Palazzo Braschi, is illustrated in A. Gonzalez-Palacios, Il Tempio del Gusto: Roma e il Regno delle Due Sicilie, Milan, 1984, vol. II, p. 102, fig. 207. The table offered here has the rare feature of being decorated on all four sides, therefore being designed to be placed in the center of a room. Fixing holes on the inside of the frieze indicate that it may have originally been backed with fabric.
