These banquettes are likely to have formed part of the exceptional collection of French furniture formed by the philanthropist Ogden Goelet. Introduced to Floors Castle following the marriage in 1903 of Henry Innes-Ker, 8th Duke of Roxburghe (d.1932) to his daughter and heiress Mary, the majority of the collection still remains in situ at Floors. A further pair of bergeres with the Goelet/Floors provenance was sold anonymously at Christie's London, 9 June 1994, lot 63.
