Lot Essay

No other dish of this pattern is recorded. The central medallion is directly adapted from the 'lotus bouquet' patterns found on Yongle dishes. The sanduo in the well, and the turbulent sea with bats to the reverse, are decorative elements inspired from wares of other forms, which were much appreciated and copied in a variety of techniques in decorative arts of both the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods.
