A FINE SOLOMON ISLANDS BOWL

In the form of a stylized frigate bird with rounded head and pointed beak, oval body tapering back to a pointed double feathered tail, the upper portion inlaid in bands of geometrically cut mother of pearl, standing on a square base, 22in. (55.9cm.) long

Collected by Lieutenant John Burke, USNR, in the Solomon Islands during World War II.

New York, Museum of Modern Art, Arts of the South Seas, 1946. This exhibition travelled to the Worcester, Worcester Art Museum, Massachussetts.
