Lot Essay

This plate is evidently of the previous pattern, modified in service to the 1903 pattern. The original Crown was almost certainly a QVC, and the three scrolls on the plate, now blank, were previously inscribed X REGIMENT/MADRAS/INFANTRY and traces of this lettering can be read on the reverse.

These devices are attributed to Major G. Rooke, 10GR, whose medals are offered as Lot 567 of this sale.
