A Tank Corps Scrap Book
A rare and interesting World War 1 scrap book, approximately 70 pages, the contents relating to the early exploits of the Tank Corps, including correspondence dated 1914-16 relating to enlistment in, or transfer to, the Royal Artillery, RFC and Motor Machine Gun Service, several illustrated articles from "The Motor Cycle" magazine relating to the Motor Machine Gun Service, many newspaper articles 1916-1918, describing the exploits of tanks in action, with copious photographs, including a British tank, captured at Cambrai, on a German rail flat, another British tank in Washington for a US Liberty Loan Parade, and one of a captured German tank, several sets of user instructions for machine-guns, a handwritten list of maintenance tasks entitled TANK CREW MECHANICAL DUTIES with a note stating that "These were received a few hours before going over the top, 14/9/16," a printed schedule entitled DETAIL OF EQUIPMENT CARRIED ON A FEMALE TANK and dated 19/5/17, an envelope bearing the crest of the MMG and a shoulder-title inscribed MMG in red on khaki cloth; with leather-bound marbled covers, 9in. x 7in.
