Correspondence from the Napoleonic Wars
A single-page manuscript letter, dated Ameins le 11 Janvier 1814 and signed D'Aigremont, relating to the repatriation of a British prisoner-of-war, together with English translation, as follows:
General Baron d'Aigremont, officer commanding the Subdivision of the Department of the Somme, requests Monsieur Fay, War Commissioner, to give a road Pass to Squire J.N. Hughes, medical Officer and English prisoner-of-war, who, by reason of a decision of His Majesty, is sent back to his native country on parole, and under exchange terms.
Consequently, this Officer, prisoner of war, will leave Amiens to-morrow, 12th. instant, and make his way to Morlaix, having pledged his word not to resume his military service until his exchange has been ratified by due process of law
