Private Reginald George Mackenzie was killed in action 1.7.1916 on the first day of the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial. After the 2nd Battalion attack up Mash Valley towards Ovillers on the first day, only one Officer of 23 who went over the top returned unwounded, and of the 650 Other Ranks that accompanied them, only 50 were able to answer roll call.
