Armourer Sergeant Benjamin Brown was born at St. Mary's, Birmingham and by trade a Gunsmith when, aged 22 years, he attested for the Corps of Armourers in July 1854. After being re-engaged in 1869 Brown was finally discharged in June 1880 - all his service was reckoned with the 58th Foot. Obviously missing life in the Army, Brown joined the 91st Regiment on 1.7.1880 as Orderly Room Clerk but was discharged to Netley Hospital three months later on 2.10.1880.
