Private Thomas Guthrie was born at Baillieston in March 1896 and following a local education apprenticed to a Glasgow firm as a Plumber. A pre-War Assistant Scout Master, he enlisted into the Cameron Highlanders in March 1915 and arrived in France in late June. Tragically he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Loos on 25.9.1915, while serving with 'A' Company of the 1st Battalion, and died at Lillers three days later.
