R.H.S. Medal 'The boy accidentally fell into the water whilst sailing a boat and sank. The canal was much swollen by the recent rains with sluggish current. The Salvor was conducting a funeral in the adjoining cemetery. He promptly threw off his surplice and coat, plunged into the canal just as the boy sank and succeeded in landing him' (Minutes of Special Committee Meeting of 14.9.1880 refer).

The Reverend Charles Walsham was the Vicar of Sculcoates in Hull at the time of the above incident, the boy having run into trouble in the canal at Barmston.
