The Reverend Eugene Sullivan, who took Holy Orders in 1866, entered the Royal Navy as a Chaplain in 1874. Enjoying a continuous spate of seagoing appointments between 1874-88, his services in H.M.S. Agincourt and entitlement to the Egypt Medal and Khedive's Star are confirmed in Crockford's Clerical Directory. Returning to terra firma with an appointment to the Royal Dockyard in Bermuda between 1888-93, Sullivan latterly served in the Royal Dockyard Devonport and the R.M. Dockyard Chatham. On retirement from the Royal Navy in 1899, he became Rector of Simonburn.
