The Reverend Joseph Percival Denham was born in 1889 and completed his education at Cambridge University. Ordained in 1912, he served as a Chaplain to the Forces 4th Class during the Great War and was employed in Egypt and Mesopotamia. Remaining in the A.C.D. at the end of hostilities, he participated in the Iraq operations and gained advancement to Chaplain 3rd Class in October 1923. Denham returned to Egypt in 1929 for a five year appointment and was Senior Chaplain at Plymouth at the time of his retirement in 1936. Rejoining the Department for the duration of hostilities in 1939, he was latterly the Rector of Dunsfold in Hampshire.
