The Reverend George Henry Ayles-Waters was ordained in 1915 and appointed a Chaplain 4th Class in the A.C.D. in February 1918. Relinquishing his appointment in February 1922, following service in Iraq, he became Curate at St. Matthew's, Portsea and was latterly the Chaplain of Netherne Hospital, Southwark, which post he occupied during the Blitz 1940-41. His wife, Edith Wadsworth, first entered the French Theatre of War as a Nurse in October 1914 but did not qualify for the Star.
