Lot Essay

S.G.M. 'On 12 January 1922, the S.S. Tidal of Cardiff was in distress about eight miles off Corton Lightship, near Lowestoft, and the S.S. Dalton came to her assistance. The weather was very bad, with rough seas and a heavy northerly gale. A lifeboat launched in charge of Mr. Spencer and manned by four Seamen safely rescued the crew, women and children on Tidal. The rescue boat had only gone 30 yards from the Tidal when she foundered' (P.R.O. BT261-6 refers).
