Lot Essay

Staff Engineer Edwin James Jeffery was appointed a 2nd Class Engineer in September 1871, a 1st Class Engineer in September 1874 and an Engineer in August 1877. Present in the operations off Alexandria in the Flagship H.M.S. Invincible in July 1882, he was further advanced to Chief Engineer in June 1887 and to Staff Engineer in June 1891.
