Chief Boatman in Charge George Farrow originally entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st Class aboard H.M.S. Pelorus in August 1838 and was rated as an Able Seaman during the course of his service in the Baltic operations of 1854-55 when aboard H.M.S. Edinburgh. Returning to the U.K. to take up appointment as a Boatman in May 1856, Farrow went on to qualify for one of approximately 40 'wide suspension' Naval L.S. and G.C. Medals to the Coast Guard. Advanced to Chief Boatman in Charge in June 1872, he was pensioned in the following year.
