S.G.M. For the rescue of the crew of the Newfoundland Schooner Elsie L. Corkum by men of the British Steamer Heronspool. 'On 26th December 1920, Elsie L. Corkum was in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. A boat manned by volunteers, after three-quarters of an hour, got away in a leaky condition and rescued the crew of 6 men in a South-West gale and very rough sea. Baling was necessary, and the lifeboat was so badly smashed that it had to be abandoned' (P.R.O. BT261-6 refers).
