Lot Essay

D.C.M. London Gazette 30.10.1918 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This N.C.O. was with a defensive patrol. They were heavily bombarded and gassed, and two of the patrol were wounded. Unaided, he brought one safely back to his lines, and then returned and brought the other back. This was done through a strong concentration of gas and intense shelling. His most gallant conduct and absolute disregard of personal safety set a splendid example to his Platoon and undoubtedly saved the lives of his two comrades'.
