A SILK-ON-LINEN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER
Wrought by Elizabeth ___th, dated 1798
Worked in blue, green, cream, tan, brown and magenta silk threads on a linen ground in eight alphabetical and numeric registers surmounted by a meandering vine with rosettes and strawberries, all above a horizontal verse inscribed, "Elizabeth ___th Her/Work Done In The Eighth/Year Of Her Age And In The Year Of Our Lord 1798" over a chain border issuing a strawberry above two houses centering a fence with trees and grass; together with three nineteenth century silk-on-linen needlework samplers, one with alphabetical and numeric registers with the inscription "Ann A. Stevens Aged 9 Years", another with alphabetical registers over a horizontal verse inscribed "Remember thy Creator in/the days of thy youth/Mary Hebron's/Sampler made in/the 12 year of her/age march 21 1826" and the last with the inscription "Sophia/Annetta/Bruckman/1831" and initials "MB, CAB, CB, FB, WB and MB" centering the Tree of Life, all needleworks decorated with birds and foliage
