A CLASSICAL CARVED MAHOGANY AND GILT-STENCILLED PIANO
Designed by E.N. Scherr, Philadelphia, 1825-1835
The rectangular hinged top with bowed front and line inlay above a conforming case with scrolling and foliate gilt-stencilled flourishes opening to reveal the inscription "New Patent/E.N. SCHERR/Philadelphia" flanked by gilt-stencilled winged griffins and scrolling foliate flourishes over an ebony and ivory keyboard, above carved scrolling volutes and foliage centering a foliate-decorated frontrail, on four ring-turned, lobed and fluted tapering cylindrical legs, on castors, and a lyre-form pedestal with two pedals and a carved rosette, two dolphins and foliate C-scrolls
