The center with the arms of the de Vassey family of Holland beneath a coronet and encircled by the inscription EN PEINE CROISSANT ANO 1702, all within tasselled rope, the rim with sprays of flowers from the four seasons, an underglaze blue sacred fungus mark on the base

Lot Essay

One of a small number of armorial orders known in true famille verte taste. D.S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain p. 37, illustrates a piece from this service and notes that before this early stage almost no sets of armorial porcelain had been made, only individual pieces, largely blue and white, and for Portugese families.
