Circa 1735
Enamelled in vivid famille rose colors with a scene emblematic of fire showing Jupiter holding his lightening bolts before Vulcan and his forge, putti at work all around and one receiving a flaming torch in the sky, the interior with a grisaille floral sprig (10)

Lot Essay

After a "Four Elements" series by the painter Francesco Albani (1578-1669) for Cardinal Maurice of Savoy which was published in a number of engravings. Hervouet, op. cit., pp. 318-9, quotes the painter writing to his patron "...I have painted Fire...not only divine and elemental fire as represented by the mighty Jupiter, but also the fire of love..."
