Richard Harmer was granted British patent number 2832 of 29 November 1856 for 'Improvements in stereoscopic pictures'. The patent related to a new method of colour stereo pairs, with each single image being coloured differently so that when viewed the differences blended together to 'produce beautiful effects'.
