In the Louis XIV Style, By Henry Vian, Circa 1900
Each with acanthus-cast and drapery-tied back-plate with foliate crest, supporting three scrolling acanthus-cast branches, each with a foliate-cast drip-pan and a turned and fluted nozzle, above a bearded Bacchic mask, with an oak and acorn terminal, each inscribed H. Vian, fitted for electricity

Lot Essay

The bronzier Henry Vian specialised exclusively on gilt-bronze, especially light fittings, and produced articles of the highest quality, so much so that the style of casting and gilding can often be mistaken for earlier work.
A set of four large wall appliques by Vian were sold in these rooms, 26 February 1998, lot 88 and another set of wall appliques by him were also sold in these rooms 6 June 1991, lot 75.
