Of bombé outline, surmounted by a female figure emblematic of Abundance lying on a waisted plinth, above a domed pediment, centred by a pair of cupboard doors, each centred by a ribbon-tied flower-filled basket, opening to reveal an interior fitted with two shelves, the sides each with parquetry panels, the reverse stamped G. DURAND to the left centre, on four cabriole legs, each headed by an espagnolette, joined by an 'X'-shaped stretcher centred by a winged cartouche, on foliate sabots

Lot Essay

Specialising in the production of 18th century style furniture of the finest quality, Gervais-Maximillien-Eugène Durand (b. 1839) worked from a number of workshop locations in Paris during the last quarter of the 19th century. With his son Frédéric-Louis joining him in around 1890, the firm altered its name to Durand et Fils.
