Pedro Ximenez Relinquia Barbadillo(1) This comes from small, very old Pedro Ximenez casks from Don Antonio Barbadillo Ambassy's Estate. These very old Sherries have matured in the Pedro Ximenez "solera" in the "Porto" cellar located in the Sevilla street formed in 1921. Intense and very dark mahogany color with hints of topaz and iodine at the rim. On the nose, it has complex and extremely rich aromas of raisin, fig, toffee and chocolate. The palate is dense and extremely rich with harmonious flavors of raisin and chocolate. Palo Cortado Reliquia Barbadillo(1) In order to satisfy the most demanding palates of Europe, Barbadillo bought some very old Sherries from the cellars of Don Manuel Arqeso. These wines were blended with some old Sherries from Domecq, Agustin Blazquez and Rodrigo Ruis Hnos "Sacrista" cellars. In 1970 a cellar was established in the "Casa de la Cilla" for these very old wines. The Sherry selected for this particular bottling is the "No" butt from the first class of this "solera". An attractive iodine color, clean, with tinges of mahogany. On the nose it is complex, full and elegant with nutty wood aroma. The palate is dry and balanced, with flavors of slightly bitter, dried fruit. It is persistent and complex. Oloroso Reliquia Barbadillo(1) The origin of this wine goes back to the first half of the 19th Century. These very old wines were called "Miura" and "Sirena", and even then they were valued at three times more than the oldest manzanillas. This wine, which is now more then 150 years old, would be classified as Oloroso Extra Dry. On the nose it has an intense aroma of nuts and dried fruits. It is a full-bodied, extremely complex and multi-structured wine - unforgettable. Amontillados Reliquia Barbadillo(1) This amontillado comes from the cellars of Pedro Rodriquez e Hijos, now owned by Barbadillo. This was a blend of a very old amontillado called "Soberana" that was aged in the "del Toro" cellar, and the "Hindemburg" amontillado. The "Hindemburg" amontillado came from the cellars of the Earl of Aldama who had bought all the old solera Sherries in the area in the hope of selling them on for a profit, but as he could not find a market for this wine he ended up bankrupt. To this day this wine retains the very finest characteristics of prolonged ageing. This impressive amontillado has a brilliant and golden color. Pungent, complex, dry and elegant with hints of bitter almonds and slightly salty aroma. Big in the mouth with the nuttiness from noble wood ageing, this wine is very well balanced and complex; a wine of contemplation.
