After a model by Émile Carlier, depicted leaning against a rock, her head declined to dexter, her right hand raised to her face, loosely draped with one breast exposed, with a broken pitcher at her feet, on an integral bow-fronted base inscribed E. carlier, with further mahogany base -- 17in. (43.2cm.) high overall

Émile Joseph Nestor Carlier (1849-1927) was a pupil of Jouffroy, Cavelier and Chapu at the École des Beaux Arts. He was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and also won medals at the Antwerp and Amsterdam exhibitions at the turn of the century.
