Lot Essay

The fast moving, leaping gazelle or springbok became a classic Art Deco motif between 1925 and 1935. Many countries adopted the symbol of modernity and reproduced it printed on paper or modelled in bronze or ceramic. John Adams' design was produced both as a pair of book-ends or as a lampbase, covered in a range of spray-glazed monochrome colours.
