Lot Essay

The interest in Egyptology increased with reports in the newspapers, magazines and at the picture palaces of new excavations and discoveries. Books including Owen Jones' Ornament of Grammar provided decorative motif found on the tomb walls which were copied and adapted to ceramic ware by several factories, most successfully at Wiltshaw and Robinson's Carlton Ware.
