The shaped rectangular bevelled plate within an acanthus border on a pounced ground, the cresting centered by a shell and flanked by parrots, the scrolling sides with further shells and flowers, above a conforming apron centered by a flowerhead, the plate later, largely re-gilt, chips to parrot head, the upper part of the shell replaced

Lot Essay

The exhuberant, shallow foliate relief carving on the mirror frame, combined with the birds flanking the cresting appear on an similar Irish early Georgian giltwood mirror, sold on the instruction of George Magan, Castletown, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, Christie's house sale, 7 and 8 October 1991, lot 76.
