Lot Essay

This form of wine-cooler is almost identical to the pair supplied by Gillow & Co. of Oxford Street, London in 1823 to Thomas John Wynn, 2nd Baron Newborough (d. 1832) (see illustration to lot 104 in this sale, the dining-room chairs). The design was illustrated in their Estimate Sketch Book of 1820, no. 3064.
