A Folk Art Diorama Of The Clipper Ship Tally Ho of New York
Anonymous (American 19th century)
The hull of the ship carved from the solid, painted black with a white waist and set in a carved painted sea. The model is well detailed with three masts, standing and running rigging, and a full suit of sails. The model has numerous details, including: anchors, running lights, pin and fife rails, ships boats, deck structures, flag, and many figures on deck. The name and port of call are fitted to the transom in raised letters. The diorama is displayed mahogany case with rope work detail along the top on each side. The case is original to the model.
