FIRST EDITION, ?FIRST ISSUE. McIlvaine A45a: "Most of the essays in this collection first appeared in Vanity Fair, where Wodehouse was called the drama critic."

There is some dispute over what constitutes a first issue binding. McIlvaine calls for gold lettering on the spine whilst conceding "David Jasen and Charles Gould do not agree and call for blue-green lettering on spine; Barry Phelps states it is a silver metallic lettering which often turns blue-green." The dust-jacket flap of the present copy is priced at 7s.6d.
