Lot Essay

The Imps on the Bridge pattern with stylised figures with their 'turnip-tail top knots' are copied form the Kewpies drawn by Rose O'Neill which first appeared in strip cartoons in Ladies Home Journal in 1909. By 1913 they had been patented, being produced as dolls and figures in various materials.
